My opinion:
I think that the renewable energy is safe foe our environment compared with used oil or gas. the government should encourage the people to use the clear energy.

Three years ago, I traveled to Malaysia; it was a nice place, and Malaysia people are very respectable. However, I ran up against a problem. It was a bout some types of nonverbal communication. For example, I went to a store to buy some gifts for my family. I saw a man who waved his hand from right to left. In my country that gesture means "good bye". My reaction was like him; I waved mine to the right and left. Unfortunately, in Malaysia that gesture has different meaning. It means "come here". When I knew its meaning, I was really embarrassed. In fact, after that experience, I believe that knowing common nonverbal signals in a country which you will visit is important, so I became careful about learning common nonverbal communication.

When I was in Chicago, my brother and I always walked downtown at noon. On day, I walked alone because my brother had a class at that time. I went to many places and I enjoyed seeing high buildings and the lake. I always wanted to practice English, but I did not, except with people who worked in stores. However, I saw someone standing alone outside a store. I went to him to talk and I said, "the weather is nice", but he did not answer. He nooded his head and I understood that he agreed with me. I also said,"Chicago is beautiful, isn't is? He also nooded his head. After that he signed OK by his finger. I talked to him about what places I saw and visited. Every once in a while, he smiled at me and liked what I said. I heard somethings. He said, "mm mm mm", but I did not understand anything. Furthermore, I felt that he was happy when he was standing next to me. After a while, I became bored because he did not say anything. I said to him, " I want to go to my home." He said "mm mm mm" and smiled at the same time. In that time, he started to talk with me by using his hands because I knew he was mute and could not speak. I understood from his gestures that he wanted to keep talking. Indeed, I felt sad about him; however, I learned different things from him. In the end, when I was walking to my brother's home, he was raising his hand to express "good bye".

Two years ago, I traveled to India to visit my uncle. I had a very interesting time. Indian people were very friendly and helpful. My uncle was living in a small and quiet village. One night, I went to the market to buy candy. When I reached the market, I met a very old woman. She seemed very poor. I smiled at her and waved. Suddenly, she started screaming and said: "thief! thief!" A lot of people came and started to shout at me. I was shocked and could not speak. Finally, my uncle came and helped me. My uncle told me that women in this village do not accept smiles from strangers. I learned that non-verbal communication is very important.

If There Is No Non-Verbal Communication

When I read about non-verbal communication in Academic Encounters, which is used in EAP 1 core class, there are many ways of non-verbal communication. I imagined that if people do not use non-verbal communication in conversation, what will happen to them? It will be hard to express their emotion and will be very awkward. Here are interesting instances. If I am just standing or sitting like a robot or a skeleton in a science lab during conversation, how does my friend feel? It looks like a "conversation machine." Or if someone tries to propose to his or her partner without non-verbal communication, how does the partner show reflex? Does it work well? I do not think so. I think that non-verbal communication is an important part in conversation like an ingredient in a meal. Delicious food needs a good source, and awful food has a bad source. I want to ask to my classmates, "was it an interesting subect in core class?" In addition, not very important, we can make a game that only uses a non-verbal communication with time limitation. The person who is smiling or laughing first is the loser. It will be very fun.

AL-Mutanabbi is one of the greatest poets in the Arabic language. He made more than 326 poems. His poems were about pride in himself, the philosophy of life and praising leaders and kings. Actually, I like this great poet because of his wonderful poems. Indeed, his poems spread in all the Arab world. However, he was simple minded in some situations. For instance, he praised kings to take money and gifts. Believe it or not, he claimed that he was a prophet! Also, he made some poems to insult others by using bad words. Bobby Fischer was the greatest chess player of all time. In fact, when he was fourteen years old, he was the U.S. chess champion. In 1972 he became world champion. Without a doubt, Bobby was a genius, but at the same time he was dumb. To illustrate, he refued to play chess on saturday because he had become a convert to the worldwide church of god. Also, when the september11,2011, attacks occurred, he called it wonderful news, because he was anger of the U.S. government. Indeed, I believe he was very intelligente , but he had a hard life. Although I do not know a lot of information or history of art, I would like to go to a museum just to look at pieces of art. Sometimes I went to a museum on the weekend when I felt tired because of exercise. One day, before I went to the National Gallery in Korea to look at Van Gogh's masterpieces with my friend, I searched on the web to learn who he was. He was one of the geniuses in the art field. He was going to be a minister in a church, but he could not; however, he got a mental problem. Moreover, he always had trouble with his family and friends. His mental problem made it hard for him to keep a relationship with other people. When he was ok, he only focused on drawing pictures. One of his stories is that he cut his ear by himself after a controversy with his friend. Finally, he killed himself by gun in 1890. In my opinion, people who are called genius have different thought and ideas; as a result, they always have a problem in relationships with other people and also seem lonely. It makes them "crazy," and changes their life "specially."

Osamu Tezuka is the most famous cartoonist in Japan. He made the first animations on TV. The most important and popular character of his is "Mighty Atom" Actually, his main occupation was a doctor. Thus, most of his cartoons related with medical science. He always constructed his cartoons; as a result, he neglected his main work. However, he got a lot of prizes in his life. For example, he got a prize of Mostra Intervazionate d'Arte Cinematografica. Japan is known as the most famous country of cartoons now. I like his cartoons because his stories are really interesting. Some of them are little difficult for me, but his cartoons taught us something important in our lives. Even if he is a doctor that is a valuable occupation from a social point of view, he could become a genius. we can learn that to keep something you like will make us geniuses. It is unfair to foreigners. I guess that some Americans who do not usually watch television have a question about who George Ade is. But they can guess who he is. Let's take the opposite situation. If the test is made in Korea, one of the questions should be, "Young Sub, ae is famous as a." I know he is famous pitcher in "Korea." He has played in Korea. Is this question fair to Americans? I do not think so. I think that it is reason that Wechsler tried to change the test's form efectively.

I remember one question from when I tested in The Saudi Aramco. The question was, "How old was King Faisal when he was sent by King Abdulaziz to visit the United Kingdom and France at the end of World War1?" The multiple choices were 13, 15, 17, 19 years old. In fact, I thought that 17 or 19 was the best answer. Finally, I chose 19 because I thought that the other answers were unrealistic. After the test finished, I found out 13 was the best answer for the question. I was surprised about this information. I wondered how King Faisal dealt with the countries when he was 13 years old! On the other hand, what was the relationship between the question and the Saudi Aramco program? The question was unfair, because it related for people who read a lot about specific information in history. Furthermore, I did not study this information when I was in a school. Therefore, students should widen their cognitions even if information is not related to their majors.

When I graduated from high school, I took an important tast in my country. to get the admission in a university. One of the most unfair questions was: when the older arab people describe the desert and said, "like Yebrain sand";What does that mean:
Distress, Breadth, Drouqh, Abounding. In fact, I was surprised About this question, because I did not know any information about Yebrain desert. I believe this question was unfair for two reasons. In the beginning, it required good historical information, but many students do not know any information about this area. In addition, the oldest students just know that question. Cultural Bias in IQ Tests

IQ tests have many questions that are considered culturally biased. For example, I had a look at an Australian test of intelligence, and I found this question: Suppose your brother in his mid-forties dies unexpectedly. Would you attribute his death to: a.God b.Fate c.Germs d.No-one e.someone f.Your brother himself. This question is unfair to many people such as people who believe in God and Godless people. People who believe in God believe that everything in the universe takes place by God's willing. So, they will choose the first answer. On the other side, Godless people may choose the second one. If we turn a blind eye to this problem, we will find another one which is ambiguous. Germs, no-one, someone, brother himself, all of them are possible answers to this question. If I were in the examinee's shoes, this question would confuse me. I wonder why scientists and researchers do not solve this problem. Why do not they make IQ tests without cultural bias?

Playing 'Pong' With the Blink of an Eye
ScienceDaily (Mar. 26, 2010) — University students have developed a computer game that is operated by eye movements, which could allow people with severe physical disabilities to become 'gamers' for the first time.

The students, from Imperial College London, have adapted an open source game called 'Pong', where a player moves a bat to hit a ball as it bounces around the screen. The adaptation enables the player to move the bat using their eye.
To play the game, the user wears special glasses containing an infrared light and a webcam that records the movement of one eye.
The webcam is linked to a laptop where a computer program syncs the player's eye movements to the game.
The prototype game is very simple but the students believe that the technology behind it could be adapted to create more sophisticated games and applications such as wheelchairs and computer cursors controlled by eye movements.
One of the major benefits of the new technology is that it is inexpensive, using off-the-shelf hardware and costing approximately £25 to make.
Eye movement systems that scientists currently use to study the brain and eye motion cost around £27,000, say the researchers.
Dr Aldo Faisal, the team's supervisor from the Department of Computing and the Department of Bioengineering at Imperial College London, says:
"Remarkably, our undergraduates have created this piece of neurotechnology using bits of kit that you can buy in a shop, such as webcams. The game that they've developed is quite simple, but we think it has enormous potential, particularly because it doesn't need lots of expensive equipment. We hope to eventually make the technology available online so anyone can have a go at creating new applications and games with it and we're optimistic about where this might lead. We hope it could ultimately provide entertainment options for people who have very little movement. In the future, people might be able to blink to turn pages in an electronic book, or switch on their favourite song, with the roll of an eye."
Mr Ian Beer, who is a third year undergraduate from the Department of Computing, adds: "This game is just an early prototype, but we're really excited that from our student project we've managed to come up with something that could ultimately help people who have really limited movement. It would be fantastic to see lots of people across the world creating new games and applications using our software."
Researchers in Dr Faisal's lab are now refining the technology so that it can monitor movements in both eyes. This would enable a user to carry out more complicated tasks such as plotting a journey on screen. This might ultimately allow them to use eye movements to steer a motorised wheelchair.

Bad dreams would stay in the net, disappearing with the light of day. Also good dreams pass through the center hole to the sleeping person. Before you take off the leaves from the corn, you can see the yellow leaves cover the corn's body. In Indian,all parts of the corn plant were used. Nothing was thrown away. The husks were braided and woven to make masks, moccasins, sleeping mats, baskets, and cornhusk dolls. Corncobs were used for fuel, to make darts for a game, and were tied onto a stick to make a rattle for ceremonies. Indian corn was unknown to the Europeans before they met the Indians. Indians gave them the seeds and taught them how to grow it. Now in the U.S.A., more farm land is used to grow corn than any other grain.

Since many Native American Indians were nomads at one point, and many would travel and move with the buffalo that would serve as a food staple for them, they had to have housing that was easy and quick to move. That is a reason Native American Indians created teepees. The word “Teepee” comes from an ancient language which means houses human beings lived in. A teepee consists of a set of 10-20 poles, a cover usually made of bison skins, an optional inside canvas or skin lining; and a canvas or skin door. The construction of a teepee was from poles as triangle; they pegged the skins to the ground and covered triangles. Teepees are not only convenient to move quickly but also are comfortable for life. The opening at the top and the smoke flaps, which allow the dwellers to cook and heat themselves with an open fire, and the lining that is primarily used in the winter, which insulates while providing a source of fresh air for the fire and dwellers, are two crucial innovations of teepees. Most teepees would not be painted. But many of teepees were decorated with pendants and colored medallions.

This sculpture is made by Nicholas Vergette who is professor in SIU. It's arranged shape of circle. There are more than 10 stone pillars. Each pillar's shape, color and pattern is different. For example, one of the pillar has scroll on the top. When i saw this sculpture, i thought that is looks like "Stonehenge". Stonehenge is
prehistoric monument. It is composed of earthworks surrounding a circular setting of large standing stones. Some scientists propose that the stonehenge was part of a religious complex dedicated to the dead. I think that is inspired Nicholas so that he made "HERE". The scarecrow is made with straw. Alot of farmers use scarecrows to protect their crops. Farmers cannot protect their crops 24 hours a day. Therefore, they came up with an idea to make a scarecrow to protect their crops because scarecrow resembled humans. Birds are not smarter than human. Therefore, birds will think that the scarecrow is a human standing up on the farmland when farmland has the scarecrow. Thus, birds will not eat the crops if the farmland has a scarecrow present. The scarecrow is able to prevent birds from eating their crops, but you cannot use a scarecrow to protect your crops forever because some smarter birds will know that the scarecrow is not humans. Therefore birds can still eat your crops even if you have a scarecrow. However, the chance of crops eaten by birds is minimized.

The Appalachian dulcimer is usually 75 to 90 cm long. The Appalachian dulcimer is a fretted stringed instrument of the zither family, typically with three of four strings. The body extends the length of the fingerboard, and it fretting is generally diatonic. It s hourglass shaped and features a spruce top and Acaia Koard back and sides. There are four same size hearts on the dulcimer. There are 17 fingerboards on it. There is a belt for people to carry the instrument. The instrument is made of wood. It is painted in brown. Reaction:

I agree with the author, even though I am only one child in my family. In China, the government has only an one child policy. We can not have brothers or sisters in one family, except if they are twins or triplets. However, Chinese children have cousins in the family. If s/he can easily get your parents' attention, you will get jealous or get mad about him/her. I had this experience, I have a cousin whose age is close to mine. When I was a primary school student, my parents always asked me to get an A, and become the best student in school, and then they would take me to some place for travelling. I got an A and I was the best student in school; however, they did not take me to go anywhere. My cousin does not like to study, also he always failed the exams. But his parents and my parents gave him some gifts and wanted him to improve his score. I did not have anything when I got an A. I felt so bad and thought about negative things; at that time, I hate of my cousin because I thought that he was my parents' child and he took all of my parents' attentions. Now, my cousin has become my best friend in my family. I like talking to him for everything like a brother; also he can keep a secret from other family members.

Summary:
When the pictures of celebrities by a paparazzi were put in a magazine or blog, the fans and readers analyzed the photos and wanted to know about their clothes, what the brand is, and wherethey can buy that. So publishers, bloggers, retailers, and fashion companies established a strategic alliance with each other. For example, the publishers gave information, brand, cost, the similar products, location of shop, and so on, to readers and they received a small fee from retailers or companies. Customers, especially young women, pride themselves on having products which are the same products as celebrities, so they want to buy the products which are the same as those of celebrities. If it costs a lot, they decided to buy similar one by any means.

Reaction:
It is a new way to advertise in the fashion industry, because in the past a picture was everything to advertise clothes. So the retailers and companies made an effort to reveal their products by celebrities, so they provided clothes and accessories to celebrities who came into the spotlight. The effect is really powerful; for instance, when the paparazzi snapped photos of Sienna Miller in Hollywood, she covered her face with a Korean cosmetic brand’s shopping bag; the name was Amorepacific. At that time Amorepacific was an unknown brand, but now it is the best brand among Hollywood stars and celebrities because of that photo. Sometimes the companies try to shoot fashion commercial photos look like paparazzi’s photos because it is easier to get attention from the customers. And they usually provide expensive products to celebrities because they believe customers’ tendency will help companies’ profit.

Then, why do people want to buy the same goods as celebrities’ even when it costs a lot? I think that tendency came from person’s desire to want to look like them, gorgeous and cool. So they always care about celebrities’ fashion, life style, and everything.

In terms of the one by Taxi, Bombardier, which designed the 12,000 Olympic torches, created the spot that demonstrated that the torches are weatherproof even in wintry Canada. Bell, Canada's telephone and telecommunications company, has bought air time for more than 2,000 commercials during the Winter Games. Its agencies created various ads, 24 English-language and 23 French-language TV spots to prevent people getting tired of the Bell's ad. The spots appear to sell Canadian niceness as well as their merchandise. Tim Horon's, the Canadian coffee shop, rolled out a tear-worthy spot dubbed “Welcome Home” during coverage of the Olympic opening ceremonies. The spot shows a tearful story, a reunion of family. The family seems to have been separated for some time; the husband reunites with his wife and two kids at the airport with the winter coats that he prepared for them, and he hands his wife a cup of Tim Horton's coffee and welcomes her to Canada. Tom Horton's offers consumers a place to tell their stories and upload videos and pictures; the spot is based on the one of their stories. Wrigley, a chewing gum manufacturer, is donating a portion of their gum sales to Canadian athletes. People can participate in its financial support for the athletes by chewing more of their gum, and they also can see the amount of the donation on giant digital billboards updated every 60 seconds. Wrigley changed the package of gum to the one printed with an image of a Canadian athlete, and added a small Canadian maple leaf to each gum piece.

Reaction:

The Olympic Games cause big economic effect to each country whether it is the site of the Olympic or not. Therefore, companies all over the world create various ads for the Olympic to boost their sales, and these ads tend to be better than their usual ads. The Tim Horton's spot expresses human's delicate emotion well in a 90-second spot. The husband welcomes all visitors to Canada as well as his family in the spot, and the Tim Horton's coffee warms his wife; also “the Tim Horton's spot” warms our hearts by the tearful story. A woman watching the family with a smile in the spot reflects audience who are watching the spot; we are in the same situation that is watching the tearful reunion of the family. I think that we feel a sense of seeing ourselves in a mirror when the woman appears in the picture, and we may make a similar expression as her. The spot uses various techniques to make people move their emotions; one of them is that they created the spot to be based on a true story contributed in EveryCup.ca, a place where consumers tell their stories. People can feel the story closely and the spot highlights the connection between Tim Horton's and customers. Wrigley also attracted many people by its interesting strategy, large-scale fund-raising for the Canadian athletes and showing the amount of the donation on giant digital billboards. People can participate in the fund-raising by buying their gum, and they can feel more of a sense that they support the Canadian athletes when they look of the billboard. These provoke people's consumer appetite because they want to support the Canadian athletes, and Wrigley offers people the way to support them in an easy way.

Also, music involves large parts on both sides of the brain. Some scientists think that musical ability in humans may be developed before language.

I’m listening to music almost every day. I can hear many kinds of sounds in daily life. Before I read the article, I heard about music therapy just a little. I was thinking that it is just for relaxing, but it has many abilities to improve speech skills. I was surprised that playing an instrument has some benefits, and it involves our brain. Also, I was interested in that some people can’t talk, but can sing. They have some problems with speaking in their brain or mind; however, they can communicate by using music. It is an amazing research because I didn’t know music has such great power. People have to have some experience with musical instruments for many abilities in future. According to the article, we can get a good hearing system if we have these experiences. Therefore, it is good for learning language. It will be good to hear the different words as music, not as just words.

Pluto’s color is changing to red. Astronomers who study planet’s colors are surprised. When people who don’t study planets see this picture, they might say it’s a yellow-orange color, but astronomers say it is 20 percent more red than before. These pictures show us that ice frozen nitrogen on Pluto is changing. Astronomer Marc Buie of the southwest Research Institute in Boulder said, “It’s a little bit of a surprise to see these changes happening so big and so fast.” Pluto didn’t change its color from 1954 to 2002. Buie can explain the red color on the planet, but he doesn’t explain why changing color is recently so fast. The planet has a lot of methane, which tends to make the planet red or dark. These pictures were taken in 2002 and studied why it changes so fast, but they didn’t find why. At the same time, the picture of the Pluto’s moon was also taken but it didn’t change. Thus it’s not an instrument mistake. The reason of difficulty of studying Pluto is that Pluto cycles the sun every 248 years. So, even astronomers don’t know what is going on when the planet is in the farthest position from the sun.

The situation in Pluto is really interesting to me, because nobody exactly know what happened in Pluto. Pluto is in the solar system and the farthest planet in solar system. Pluto has about -382 Fahrenheit spot. After Apollo went to the moon in 1968, the industry of the Universe has been developing. Many people including me think we know many things about the Universe and have defeated some part of solar system, because many movies show us a spacecraft and an alien. But the real world is not like that. The moon is the nearest planet to the earth. Also, going to the moon is not easy. I think the Universe has many mysteries and potentialities. We may find new resources that we need, but we can’t find them on the earth. Therefore, people should invest more in the Universe. I also worry about the life span of the planet. I heard every planet has a life time. Nobody knows why Pluto’s color is changing fast. If Pluto’s life time is almost at the end, and if it is just the beginning to the end of another planet’s life, this is a serious problem. Thus I believe we need more attention to the Universe, especially the solar system.

Meanwhile, Harry Potter movies are so famous that it influenced the entire world; that’s why this theme park has attracted many people, even it is still under construction. Talking about something important in this theme park, it concludes 20 acres of amazing amusements, such as eateries and shops. Another thing that I want to highlight is also necessary; Hogwarts castle would be seen beyond the gates of Universal, and if has new technology and other characters we are never seen before. Another primary thing is the amusements, “a family-friendly roller coaster, flight of the Hippogriff, is a re-theming of the park’s Flying Unicom ride”. A little funny thing is Hagrid who is the half-giant would teach the visitors how to “ride” a hippogriff, this animal mixes the characters of a lion, an eagle, and a horse. Then shopping in this magical world also is exciting for fans. Zonko’s Joke Shop, Honeydukes Sweetshop, which appeared in the movies, are certainly kept in the theme park. By the way, Chocolate Frogs and Berty Botts’ Every Flavored Beans, are some foods that are traditional; instruments and keepsakes in the movies cannot be forgotten. Firstly, I admit that I am a fan of Harry Potter. So after I read this article, I could realize how exciting be a fan. The first reason is that this theme park would make our dreams, which we extraordinarily want to participate in this magic world become true. Imagining this, when you walk around the alley of the park, the magic things are fill in the park: the owl is flying above your head, many wizards are slaving strange and fantastic mana potions, and many shops are described by hurricane lamps, magic stones, and wizards’ never extinguishable fire. Like in the real movie, or you can say “we are in the real Harry Potter’s world”. Even though, some people are not the fans for Harry Potter movies, they would feel how exciting and unbelievable if is through the amazing flight of the hippogriff, the interesting goods they have never seen before, and fantastic castles and groceries shops funny shapes. Another news are about the main actor named Daniel Radcliff who plays Harry on the big screen. He was very excited to hear these news like most normal fans. “I remember I would some out of films when I was younger and absolutely just wish that world could be real and I could be a part of it; it’s fantastic that people will actually get to realize everything they’re seen on screen”. It is easy to see, joining this world is really cool and funny, even the “real” Harry Potter. Well, on my own, I am looking forward to this theme park coming soon, and participating in this magic world right now.

This article tells us about the new evidence of a kind of dinosaurs, which looks like bird, but does not belong to birds. This kind of dinosaurs is distinct from the birds. National Science Foundation supposed some scientists’ expeditions. They went to Xinjiang Autonomous Region, a part of northwestern China. This place is famous for Late Jurassic fossils. After through many of expeditions, these scientists found many interesting fossils. Especially, they found the fossil of Haplocheirus, which was their major discovery. Haplocheirus is a transitional fossil; it displays an early evolutionary process, so it reflects the process that the later alvarezsaurs develop and change from earlier predatory dinosaurs. And this kind of fossil also proves the scientists’ predictions-the Alvarezsauridae is used to develop in the Late Jurassic time period. Besides, according this article, the Late Jurassic period is very important in that the birds evolved in this time.

After reading, I feel this expedition was historic. The new fossil can return a real situation of the Late Jurassic period, and let our people find the truth of the dinosaurs’ evolution. Before I held the same view with scientists, that the birds are evolved from the group of Alvarezsauridae. Even though this result is announced to republic but I was so shocked that I could not believe this fact. That is because it is totally different; the knowledge that students learned before was the opposite. In addition, as a Chinese I’m very proud of our country; this most important historic thing was found in China. This new discovery can help us to fix the erroneous theory, and let our students obtain the right knowledge; it is good for our science development. I realize that sometimes the firm knowledge maybe is wrong, even if people believe it for so many years. When we have different views, we should point out our questions, not just follow the rules.

Reaction

In Korea, poor and normal people cannot make big money well even though we save money a lot in the bank. Our interest rates are too low and our salaries are always similar. It is difficult to get big money suddenly, so poor people are always poor and rich people are always rich. Because of these problems, some people try to buy land and sometimes, they think they can get big money by buying interest in a company. However, it cannot also solve our serious situations and cannot be a good way for them. In addition, in Korea the costs of renting and buying a house are too high. Even though poor or normal people try to save money to buy a house, it takes too much time. On the other hand, rich people don’t care about that. They can get a lot of money easily and can buy a house easily with high interest rates. With problems like these, the rich-become-richer, poor-become-poorer banking practices can come about the number of serious accidents, such as borrowing money from loan sharks, human trafficking, and suicide. I really agree with author’s suggestions that banks need to try orienting their business toward lower-income working-class customers by reinvigorating micro-financing systems, and the government should try to check discriminatory practices. If the banks and government don’t try ways like these, our economy will be going down more and more and will have many problems. I hope they can care more about these things for their citizens who always sweat at their job and work hard to walk a path strewn with roses.

According to the article, Chrysler's new chief uncovered a good outlook for the company future to automaker on Wednesday. He said that they are going to have more than double sales. Then, he said that they are going to get dozens of new cars, which were built on Fiat Platforms. So, they will be willing to pay to the United States taxpayers during the next five years. Sergio Marchionne, who is the executive chief of Fiat, said that Chrysler is going break by a net basis by 2011. Fiat's management thinks that Chrysler needs to find a new international market under the jeep brand. When he was in the stage, Marchionne he said that a lot of people were wrong because they misjudged Chrysler’s ways for reducing costs. Even after the Marchionne speech, many people did not believe that it would be that easy for Chrysler to rebuild interest in the United States market. Last October, the company sales were decreased by thirty percent and thirty-nine percents from the beginning of the year until today. Marchionne did not speak about an important question, which is where they are going to build the cars. He also said, by doing this business, they will provide fuel-saving technology and engine technology. Twenty percent of Chrysler’s stakes were given to Fiat for repairing and renewing the company investment. Also, he said that by 2014 half of Chrysler cars will be built by Fiat, and forty percent of them will have Italian engines, so Chrysler will be able to save 2.9 billion dollars.

Response:

I think that Chrysler got a great deal with Fiat. Chrysler lost a lot of money in the financial crisis, so they were trying to reduce their costs. One way that they will use to reduce the costs is to start building their cars in Fiat factories. I agree with this idea, because a lot of companies are doing it to reduce the workers salary expenses, which is good for these companies. Another way that the new boss mentioned, is by 2014 forty percent of the cars are going to have Italian engines. I belive that this is not a good idea for an important reason. People overseas loves American cars because of the American engines. So by doing that a lot of people are going to stop buying Chrysler cars, because they lost the most special thing that they have. Form my experience, Chrysler cars are not useful. My father bought a 2002 Van and during the first two years we were spending a lot of money to fix it from different problems. Because I’m majoring in business, this article interests me by telling me how companies solve financial problems.

This article is actually talking about fashion media publicity nowadays. Today the biggest buzz in fashion is not the clothes or anything of that, it’s all about the social media , and how they represent their fashion by their own networks! The article mentions a lot of examples about famous designers in the world, and how they manage to deal with the social media for their own agenda! And also how can they attract people by these networks to enter their fashion world of publicity.

It’s all about image. Nowadays the biggest interest in the fashion industry is not about the trends for the next season or the fabulous celebrities styles, but what are they wearing? And whose fashion designs are they talking about? It’s all about publicity, and when I say publicity I mean the media, the social networks that represent fashion nowadays.

The social networks have a humongous effect on the fashion industry. In the past ten years they have represented their fashion sense and style by shows, Fashion Weeks and models, but now it’s very different. The internet and social networks have a really major affect on them; from Youtube to Facebook, we almost have the whole world on them, so it’s very easy to spread anything there. According to Mr. Gabbana: “Blogs are very important for us,”. Fashion designers and big fashion companies are using the social networks and blogs for their own publicity, and it’s working pretty well.

The article mentioned that the designers, Demonecia Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, moved some buyers out of their usual front row seats to give the spots to four fashion bloggers and installed laptops so the writers could blog and tweet during the show, and when you think about it you‘ll say, are they crazy? But if you think about it clearly and carefully, you’ll figure out that those bloggers are more important than the buyers. The bloggers are bringing the whole world to his show, live! And Mr. Dolce admits that: “The Web, for luxury brand, is not the future, but the present,” and that’s true people would like to see the latest collections of famous designers on web, but what is more exciting than seeing the upcoming collections live streaming on famous websites?

Youtube is a worldwide video center. Giant designers like Dolce and Gabbana, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and Alexander McQueen are using Youtube for their own good image. Facebook also has a very big effect on people and it’s doing a very amazing job since it was founded 5 years ago, and it’s doing a very big favor for fashion designers, to sell their own work. Then there is Twitter the biggest network since 2007; according to the article, Louis Vuitton streamed his fashion show live using his Twitter feeds; and there is Lady Gaga, the real example of the power of social media, the article mentions her tweet cause on people from the live streaming of Alexander McQueen’s show, which led the site’s servers to crash, it was really fascinating!

Then, we have what Gucci did for his own publicity; he published his latest collections on his site and let the visitors upload their own photographs to see the pictures as a reflection of his styles and collections. In my opinion I think that people are becoming a little bit obsessed with these things; I agree with the article that “People are getting really excited about social media without really asking themselves if there is any reason to really get excited”, and that’s true, we know it’s fascinating and it’s a very beautiful thing to share and to look at, but it’s getting a little wild nowadays: for example, what Mr. Gonsorcik’s agency found about the Louis Vuitton Facebook page, that 760,120,000 fans are registered.

In the end of the article he mentioned other examples by other designers and authors, but it’s the same situation. I think that it’s true, the social networks are growing very fast, and it’s like everyone has his own Blogger or Facebook or even a Twitter or a Youtube account, and some how it terrifies me how the world has become very fast like this depending on these social networks and blogs; maybe it’s good, but there are always side affects for everything, so I think that it’s time that we need to slow down, and just take a break from all these things.

Reaction
Maybe the article can change someone’s mind to buy iPhone because the problems of iPhone are known by many more people after the article was published. However, I do not think people should be worried about that. It is very common to see that problems happens to hi-tech produce today, especially for the newest produce. For example, data traffic also happens to blackberry some months ago. I do not major in electrical engineering yet, so I do not know the specific solutions for the problems. I think what both AT&T and iPhone should do is to find out the problems as soon as possible and fix it. If they cannot pay enough attention on the problems and neglect it, they lose many owners.

These days most people take a growing interest in slim shape; also they always want to be in great shape. I am also concerned about slim shape. Therefore, I know that I have to do exercise and not overeat food for good shape, but it is not easy for me. Therefore, when I pick clothing, I consider some of my problems in my body. The author says, "Say no to badly fitted outfit," before I read this article, I used to wear loose clothes, because I thought loose clothes helped to hide my body problems, but it was my mistake. In last year loose clothes were much in fashion to most women in Korea. Maybe this year also if is popular to wear loose clothes. However, women who want to appear to have a slim shape had better know that loose clothes may show bigger women than their own shape. Moreover, this article mentions good posture. I agree with it because when someone who does not have pride about their own body shape walks on street, they avoid people's gaze or do not go out well. However, they are supposed to have pride in their shape. Also, when people walk on the street, they had better walk in grand style. People have to love their shape. If people love their own body, they appear to be in good shape. This article gave me good ideas and I want to recommend if to people.

More than that, many countries have established professional organizations to take care of accounting as a career and that thing can make the accounting role more clear. So, people will have a clear image before they start their jobs as an accountant. In my countries saudi arabia we have Saudi Organization for Certified Public Accountants (SOCPA) which is the only organization that authorized to deal with accounting principles, and it makes all roles for the accounting.

I chosen this article because this is about ESL that I am taking now. I learned from this article that there are various types of ESL. I agree with importance of ESL because ESL class gives intensive training with short term. I believe that intensively learning in the short time is most important point to acquire the other language. In addition, ESL classes proceed by English only. It is really important, and speaking skill and listening skill are improved at the same time. By the way, my class in ESL is advantage English course for take academic class. There are a lot of difficult technical terms for me, but it is not major, it is not so bad effect for me because I can learn new knowledge. I find that artical discusses important research about the connction between nerves and brains. The intresting thing in this artical is how we can combine between two different scinces to solve serious problems. For example, in this artical we can infer that we have two different scinces: Engineering, which is in this artical resbonsible for the artficail arm, and the medical field, whose function to connect the artifcail arm to the brain. In addition, this search could solve alot of problems related to disabled people like missing limbs and paralysis. In my country, there are a lot people who are injured by accidents and who thier limbs or can not even move because of paralysis. Furthermore, I find another beatiful part of this search about electrical signals could help some desaises like hight blood prssuere and dibetes.diseases like these which depand on the controling can be solved with electrical signals. I find also, it is a good begining for this invention esspcailly to do ten different movemensts. Tepiecally these movements as not like able people's movements, but it is possible to develop this invention or search until the time they can make them as natural movements. As a result, many people can do their activties in perfect ways. I know one friend who had a good position in his work but he had to quite after having an accident and losing his left hand. However, the changing prices of investment portfolio makes achieving these returns uncertain; also, these returns are affected by inflation. In fact, nobody could estimate how much better or worse stock market returns could be in the future. According to the relationship between the investment portfolio and inflation, if the portfolio lost money in any given year there would be no raise for inflation. In addition, retirees have to wonder whether the market will behave in the future as it has in the past. Experts say that to solve retirees’ problems they should create a separate discretionary fund.

Reaction:

Some retirees enjoy spending their savings for travelling, visiting their relatives, or making life more fun. However, most of them are concerned about the future, and they have to wonder whether their savings will cover future expenses, such as food, rentals, and treatment. Because of increasing prices, retirees try to achieve some profits by entering into the financial markets. In other words, retirees might lose their savings, rather than make profits, because of a lack of knowledge of financial market conditions. In the real world, I suggest that retirees should figure out stocks and bonds which make up their investments before investing; also they should divide their investment portfolio correctly between cash and stocks and bonds.

Do you think a new culture would be shocking? When student comes the first time to a new country, he gets culture shock. Culture shock is very difficult for students because it is sometimes good and sometimes bad. Even though, culture shock affects students, it is still exciting. America is multicultural because Chinese, Japanese, and Mexicans. On the other hand, new students find different language, food, and transportation in a new country.
The first impression for a student coming to America is the language difference. Because Libyan students find that American people speak very quickly, and there are new words and slang language, they become confused. In addition, Libyan students cannot understand what is being said. Therefore, they carry portable dictionary for translated words. Likewise, Libyan students talk with people who speak English quickly, and they cannot understand. Consequently, they can ask them "please could you speak slowly " or "could you repeat". Libyan students should learn the English language and meet American people.
Every culture has different types of food. Libya has traditional food such as Couscous and Tajin. Libyan people prefer eat their meals at home and eat fresh food. Because America has different kinds of food such as fast food, deliver food, and Buffy food, Libyan students try to figure out what kind of food is offered. In addition, libyan people eat their meals at home by traditional style. The United States of America has different restaurants that offer different types food. Therefore, our Students find it difficult to deal with different types of food. Libyan people prefer fresh food in their

meals. In America, stores sell canned foods. As a result, Libyan students do not prefer preservative food. My country does not have fast food restaurants. America has fast food restaurant such as McDonald's, which offers cheap sandwiches. Therefore, students prefer low-price sandwiches because they do not have a lot of money. Libyan students should adapt to new types of food and different restaurants that offer different types food.
Finally, transportation in a new culture is shocking to students. Libya does not have fast transportation. In America, transportation is fast, especially airplanes. The New York airport, airplanes take off and land every other minute at least. Therefore, Libyan students will find difficult to get to airplane on time. In addition, my country does not have metro transportation. In the United States of America, many cities have metro transportation, which is cheap transportation. Consequently, our students prefer to use metro for their traveling between America countries. My fatherland does not have road network. The United States of America has the greatest road network in the world. Therefore, students will confuse with the complicated road network. Libya does not have a great system tests driver license. America has a great system tests driver license. As a result, our students get easily driver license.
Actually, there are many culture shocks over all the world, which are hard to people. However, culture shock to student is very difficult in the first because student finds a new language, a new food, and a new transportation. According to information that mentions above on difference culture, people will find difficult communicating and accepting new culture.

What Reasons Lead to Stress

According to Amy Maxmen’ s article, secret shame, the author introduces what reasons lead to stress, what disease caused by stress, and how to conquer stress. The author said that shame is an important reason lead to stress and more stress will produce cortisol ,which is too bad to our body. Cortisol always comes from bad habits and poor emotion.

From the article, I know some reason lead to stress. However, I don’t agree with author’s points. In my opinion, I think that stress not comes from bad habits and poor emotion, and it comes from everyone’s mind.

First point should be mentioned that stress doesn’t come from bad habit. In most people’ eyes, bad habits are more salt intake, cigarette smoking and alcohol. They are all influence people’s health. Actually these bad habits are a way to release stress. I have a friend who likes smoking very much. When I asked him why are you often smoking and don’t know that is really bad for your health, he told me that in his eyes, smoking was a best way to reduce stress and ignore anxious. So that I think these bad habits just say that they are all bad for your health, but not lead to stress.

Then, author said that bad emotion also caused stress. Bad emotion includes angry, fear and anxious. They are also too bad to our body. At the same situation to bad habits, poor emotion is also a good way to release stress and depression. My mum has a bad temper and she always yelled at me. She looked like relaxed herself after she angry. I think that yell at others is also a good way to reduce stress. From the article, although it produces cortisol ,which is bad for our body, it can’t lead to stress.

The last point I should be mentioned that stress is always coming from our mind. Nowadays the rhythm of society has became faster and faster. People always try their best in everywhere. So they may meet stress. Actually stress is always coming from our mind. This mind let people do everything best and not stop. So people hard working all the time and sad for losing job. In order to reduce stress, people have to sleep more time and even have bad habits. It is to say that this bad mind leads to people get stress.

Everyone has stress ,which is not come from bad habits and poor emotion, just comes from everyone’s mind. Bad habits and poor emotion just help you to reduce stress. Actually stress is coming from mind. Keeping your mind relaxed is good. The world we live is not a heaven or a hell, and we just adapt it, enjoy it and live in it.

I-Introduction:
Why smoking start whit young people
Smoking is very common in today’s society; however, more and more young people smoking are very much common today. The young people’s smoking has become popular in newspaper and TV programs. There is some mentioned that smoking is like a killer in our life; it can affect a person who is getting cancer or other health system illnesses, such as lung disease, especially in children. Another group is over twenty-five year-old males and females who smoke cigarettes in American. Lots of people smoke because they feel relaxed when they smoke. On the other hand, if people who smoke for lifetime, they will not be able to have good health. Instead, the secondhand smoking is more serious than for the person who just smoked. From this problem, some reports have shown that secondhand smoke is more harmful to health. Another equally essential thing should be mentioned that, there is a lot of females also smoking. Thus, People are looking for a answer. What kind of temptation could cause people to smoke, especially young people; moreover, they want to find a solution for how we can reduce the number of people who are smoking.
II- PURPOSE
Our purpose was to look for general reasons why some people smoke. We wanted to know about how often a smoker smokes. Next, what happened that caused a person to star smoking. As far as I know, to find out whom a smoker usually with whom, in addition, we wanted to use people’ suggestion to help people who smoked.
III- Hypothesis:
In my opinion today, the more and more females are suffering from the stress, which come from different fields. Therefore it is a useful way for females to reduce the stress. In the modern society no one can deny that, male smoking has been common condition, from the pass until now. Moreover perhaps smoking never failed to fascinate young people. I thought that they were curious about smoking with a strong passion. The children usually used to imitate some behavior from their parents.

IV-Material:
We named around seven to nine questions for the survey. And this survey was not only about smokers. Non –smoker were asked too. We asked what feeling a smoker has, and when they smoked, and we tried to find the answer from the non-smokers; how did they feel about why the people usually smoke.
V-Method
We asked about 40 people on our campus; in CESL we just interviewed a few people, and we also did this in the student center. There were more people there than in CESL. Moreover, from the interviewed, we did all of this study, including the males and females, at the same time; some people were young people.

VII. Results
According to the chart 78.9 percent of males smoke; 21.1percent of females smoke. Also these people usually smoke alone and with other people have a number is 12.5 percent. However, people who from these group smoke in public only have 8.3 percent, and some of them smoke in the private with 25 percent, but people who smoke in the both place has 66.7 percent of these people. Many smokers smoke because of stress and because of their friends also smoke with 49.2persent. There are 39.5 percent people give suggestion to help people who smoke to quite smoke. So the survey shows that people care about themselves even if they smoke.
VIII- Conclusion And Discussion
My hypothesis was similar to my survey; there are just a small number for female smoke, and there has a big number with people who care themselves. I learned that people who always smoke in the public always with other people. If I have a chance to did this survey again, I will make other question for the survey, and make some plane for people who smoke to help them to quite smoke.

Understanding Smoking group of Young People
I. Introduction

Recently, the numbers of smokers have grown fast, especially among young people in our society. Smoking makes many bad consequences for a body. It affects people’s organs’ health a lot. People will have many uncomfortable symptoms such as high blood pressure, respiration problems, and emotional problems. Seal said” (1998). Cigarettes will make concern for human’s body. Smoking is a harmful thing for society and young people, because young people comprise an important group in society. For young people’s responsibility, they must contribute positive things for society with a healthy body. First, their healthy body can create economic growth. Smokers comprise a large percentage of the population. Therefore, they play or have an important role in society’s economy. Next, their healthy body connects with their life and society’s resources. They should a have healthy body to create their new life. A healthy body can supply energy for them. So, they can make their life become better without society’s help. Finally, they should use their healthy body to contribute to society. Young people are a big group that leads society into success. Therefore, they need to have a healthy body to help them.

II. Purpose

We wanted to know which gender has the higher proportion, why young people tend to smoke, and non-smokers’ opinion about smokers. We decided to survey the CESL students in Carbondale, Southern Illnols because there are many international students there. We wanted to get different views of smokers who want to quit in different countries and find out why smokers tend to smoke and which ways smokers want to quit.

III. Hypothesis

In my view, the rate of female smokers would be lower than male smokers because females care more about health than males. Smokers would say they started to smoke because of their environments and non-smokers also would have the same thinking.

IV. Materials

We surveyed young people with several questions. Through the survey, we discussed smoking with them and got new information about smoking. We collected these materials to make exact data. We had forty- three surveys, including twenty- two males and twenty- one females

V. Methods

We went outside to get smokers and chose people who we did not know. We wanted to understand most international students’ thinking about smoking behavior through the survey. We wished to get some general ideas of smokers and nonsmokers about quitting smoking. These clues would help us know how to treat smokers. In the survey process, these people enjoyed to answering our questions and gave us different views of how they thought of smoking.

Male smokers number was more than females. We have fifteen male smokers(71%) but only four female smokers(18%). Both smokers and nonsmokers had the same ides; they thought environments make people start smoking, such as friends smoking and family member smoking. Smokers want to have a program of training to help them quit smoking and most of them(62.5%) said they were not addicted.

VIII. Discussion and Conclusion

In conclusion, Our hypothesis was correct. Smokers tend to smoke because their environments affect them a lot. It is a worthy survey because it shows that most of smokers are not addicted and they want to quit smoking. We will try to understand what kinds of program of training they want to have at next time.

I. Introduction

Smoking is a serious problem in most countries. Smoking affects the smoker in social, health and economic terms. Smoking also affects the environment. In social terms, people will stay away from smokers because of the bad smell of smoking. In health terms, smoking causes many diseases like bronchitis, emphysema, larynx cancer, and pancreatic cancer (Seal, 1998). In economic terms, smokers will spend more money on cigarettes, so they will have low income and smokers will have trouble with money in the future. Nowadays both men and women are smoking; “about 35 percent of adult men and 25 percent of adult women in the United States smoke cigarettes” (Seal, 1998). People start smoking, often when they are adolescents, for different reasons; some smokers smoke because their parents smoke, and some of them smoke because they have stress in their life. It is difficult for smokers to quit smoking after they start to smoke. “People become psychologically dependent on smoking as a way of reducing anxiety and coping with different situations. Because of these physiological and psychological forces, quitting is difficult and the relapse rate is high” (Seal, 1998, P-31).

II. Purpose
We did this survey about smokers for both smokers and non-smokers. For smokers, we did it to know why they smoke, where they smoke, with whom they smoke, who smokes more, males or females, and what the best way to quit is. For non-smokers, we wanted to know what they think about smokers and why they start smoking.

III. Hypothesis

I thought males would say that they smoked more than females because females cared about their lives more than males. I thought half of males would be smokers.

IV. Materials

In our survey we asked eight questions, three questions for both smokers and non-smokers. Two questions were for smokers and one question was for non-smoker people, so we could cover all types of people. The types of questions were yes/no questions and multiple-choice questions.

V. Methods

We asked 43 different people from different places around SIUC like Faner building, the library and the student center. We went outside and we asked anyone. We asked males and females of different ages and from different countries. We asked both smokers and non-smokers to get different answers. We gave the survey and waited until they filled it out to have the result at the same time. I think we have a good survey about smokers, because we asked different people in different places and the people were very kind to do the survey.

According to our survey, 78.9% of smokers are males and 21.1% of females are smokers, so males are smoking more than females. 75% of smokers are smoking equally both alone and with people, and 12.5%, said they smoked mostly alone or mostly with people. 66.7% of smokers smoke both in public and private, and 25% of smokers smoke in private only, and 8.3% of smokers smoke in public only. 42.9% can equal percentage, of smokers smoke because they have too much stress, and because they have friends who smoke. 9.5% of smokers smoke because they have exams, and 4.8% of smokers smoke because they have a family member who smokes. 29.5% of non-smokers think that the smokers start smoking because they have friends who smoke, and 25% of smokers smoke because they have too much stress, and 13.6% of smokers smoke because they think cigarettes are tasty, and an equal percentage of 11.4% of smokers smoke because their friends pressured them to smoke.

VIII. Conclusion & Discussion

According to the result, my hypothesis was right that more males are smoking more often than females. I don’t think that our survey was perfect because we asked only 43 people, which is not enough for an excellent survey. In my opinion, the best way to have more people is to put the survey online. Next survey I would like to concentrate on only smokers to have specific information to learn a lot about why smokers smoke and what is the best way to quit smoking.

I. Introduction

Since smoking is a hot issue all over the world, people care about their health more seriously. Seal said, “smoking has been conclusively linked to many other diseases as well, including bronchitis, emphysema, larynx cancer, and pancreatic cancer” (1998, p. 31). This survey is about what percentage of males and females smoke, why they keep smoking and what is the best way to quit smoking.

II. Purpose

EAP1 Writer’s Workshop members did this survey together; we wanted to find out what percentages of males and females smoked, and why they smoked and for smokers and non-smokers, why smokers can’t quit smoking, and what they think is the best way to quit smoking.

III. Hypothesis/ Hypotheses

There are more and more female smokers nowadays; smoking is not just man’s thing anymore. Maybe there is much pressure for females in this society, and females reduce stress by smoking? Do they think smoking is cool? Non-smokers started smoking because of their friends smoking? Are smokers addicted? Is there any way to quit smoking? We wanted to know the percentage of smokers for each gender, why they smoke and what they think is the best way to quit smoking.

IV. Materials

The survey questionnaire is one page; all of the questions are multiple choice. It’s separated by male and female first, because I think that’s pretty important in the smoking problem. There are seven questions for both male and female and for smokers and non-smokers. And there are three questions for smokers; generally it’s about whether they smoke alone or with people, whether they smoke in private or in public, and are whether they are addicted. There are questions for both smokers and non-smokers about why they think smokers started smoking and what they think is the best way to quit smoking.

V. Methods

We asked forty-three people, all CESL students in SIU around the campus on a Thursday in July. And I was waiting for them while they finished the survey and gave it to me. I think it was pretty fair and convenient; of course they are not representative of all students and Americans. We just surveyed forty-three students at the same university.

From the Excel chart, it showed that only 21.1 percent of smokers are females, and another 78.9 percent of smokers are males, from the 43 people who participated in this survey. Female smokers are a quarter of male smokers, in the survey data there are many more male smokers than female smokers.

VIII. Discussion and Conclusion

The result were different from my hypotheses. I think the reason is that we just surveyed the CESL students, the participating number is too limited, and maybe they lied to us, because we never met before and maybe they thought it was not that important and they felt embarrassed. there are no doubt many female smokers all over the world; I can see many female smokers in the campus. If I do this experiment again, I will survey more people and not just CESL students, also survey American students and people who are out of the campus and other states people as much as I can, so that I can get the average number of smokers and more correct data.

I. Introduction

The smoking problem has been treated as a big issue from many years ago. According to Seal, smoking has caused many diseases such as bronchitis, emphysema, larynx cancer, and pancreatic cancer (1998). Especially, an adolescent smoking is more dangerous than an adult smoking. Moreover, the example of parents and pressure from peers can be reasons for adolescents smoking. Actually, the rate of smoking went up very fast, so cigarettes companies started to produce cigarettes with warnings, and the media also tried to give knowledge about how dangerous cigarettes were. For these reasons, the rate of smoking has gone down.

II. Purpose

Our EAP 1 WW class wanted to find out about basic knowledge about smoking. First we wanted to know male’s smoking rates and female’s smoking rates. Next, we wanted to know about smoker’s smoking behavior and know whether they are addicted or not. Third, we wanted to know from smokers about why they started smoking and we wanted to know from non-smokers about why they thought people started smoking. Finally, we wanted to know about the best way to quit.

III. Hypothesis

I believed male’s smoking rate might be higher than female’s smoking rate, because I saw most smokers were male in front of Faner Hall. Also I believed that they didn’t care about smoking alone or smoking with others, but I think they will smoke in private, because most non-smokers don’t like them to smoke in public. Also I thought they might start smoking due to influence of parents. I believed a program of training was the best way to quit, because it might be hard to quit without other’s help. Actually, I saw many people fail to quit smoking.

IV. Materials

Our survey paper is formed of alternative question of male or female and smokers or not, and we also have multiple choice questions about smoking behavior, reasons for starting, and best way to quit.

V. Methods

We asked forty-three people in Faner Hall and outside of Faner hall. These people were mostly CESL students. Although they were not my friends, I just asked them. I did the survey in the last week during free time. When I did it, I met each person and waited for them to finish filling it out. After the survey we collected survey papers and made statistics of smoking. Even though it is not a survey that many people are participating, it might be pretty similar to whole American's result.

VII. Results.

According to the appendix, 78.9% of smokers were male, while 21.9% of the smokers were female. They usually didn’t care about the places, whether private or public. 66% of smokers responded that they smoked in both places. A small percentage of smokers responded they just smoked alone. 75% of smokers smoke whether they are alone or not. Moreover, 37.5% of smokers answered that they are addicted. Smokers started to smoke due to influence of friends smoking (42.9%) and stress (42.9%). It shows a similar rate to non-smoker’s response. They also thought both of those were the biggest reasons people started smoking. Both, smoker and non-smoker, responded that program of training is the best way to quit smoking (39.5%).

VIII. Conclusions and Discussion

My hypothesis and survey results seem similar with respect to smoking rates, smoking behavior, reason for starting smoking, and best way to quit smoking, but not smoking places. I was really surprised at that result. According to the result, most smokers didn’t care about the place. Even though we just surveyed around Faner Hall, the results were not much different from all of U.S smoker’s survey result.

Smoking is a serious problem that has affected us from many years ago. No one has proved that yet; there are physical reasons to start smoking. The body doesn't need tobacco the way it needs food, water, sleep, and exercise. Almost everyone knows that smoking causes cancer, emphysema, and heart disease; “Despite these deadly effects, about 35% of the adult men and 25% of adult women in the United States smoke cigarettes, averaging one and a half packs a day for a national grand total of some 600 billion packs a year”(Seal, 1998); that it can shorten our life by 10 years or more; and that the habit can cost a smoker thousands of dollars a year.

II.- Purpose

We wanted to do a survey, because we wanted to find out how many smokers are in SIUC, and how many of them are women and men. Also we were interested in knowing what the reasons are that people smoke, and if they have a particular preference for doing it, alone or around people.

III.- Hypotheses

I believe that from this survey, it is going to prove that more males smoke than females. Also that the most common reason to start to smoke is for stress. In addition, the majority is not going to admit that they are addicted. And it’s going to be more common to smoke around people than alone.

IV.- Materials

We used a questionnaire with 8 questions in total; for some to respond was yes or no; for others it was multiple answer, and in the rest they had to given their opinions. Some of the questions are, do you smoke; do you smoke mostly alone or with people; do you smoke in private or in public; are you addicted; and what’s the best way to quit.

V.- Methods

An 8-item survey was administered in SIUC in many different places like the hallway of the Faner building; to students of the summer CESL program; also outside of the library, and in the Student Center. We asked males and females of different ages; most of them with different backgrounds, and cultures, and from different countries.

According to this survey it is very clear that males smoke more than females; there exist a very high difference in the result. The survey shows that 78.9% of the smokers are males and only 21.1% are females. Also we can see a distend preference that most of the people smoke in both ways, like with company or alone, with 75%. However just a few of them prefer to smoke in private; this option reaches 25%; but 66.7% of the people who took the survey don’t pay attention to that, and smoke with people too. Just 37.5% recognized that they are addicted, but 62.5% don’t. 42.9% of the people started to smoke because they felt a lot of stress in their life. And the majority believe that people start to smoke because they are influenced by their friends. And 39.5% also think that the best way to quit smoking is a program of training

VIII.- Conclusion

I had proved with facts many of my points from this survey; for example that more males smoke than females. Also I confirm that the most common reason to start to smoke is for stress; I think that is the major reason, because many people had told me that they feel relaxed when they smoke. In addition, I corroborate that the majority doesn’t admit that they are addicted; maybe it’s because they felt shame and they don’t want to admit that they had a problem.

Smoking Survey Report

I - INTRODUCTION
I think people had problems with smoking because it causes many diseases. Many people had cancer, so they died and that was because of smoking. Smoking is important for some people for their health. People begin to smoke because they have exams, because family members smoke, and because of too much stress. If a person starts smoking, this person will never quit unless this person went to programs for training. Smoking causes huge problems to our environment (Seal, 1998). It also affects the education for students. Some programs can really help smokers stop, and smokers often stop once a while. For so many reasons many diseases can affect us indirectly very quickly and a lot of second hand smokers die earlier than smokers (first hand smoking). People think that smoking is relaxing for them, but it is really dangerous for their health. And (Seal, 1998). So, the reasons of this survey is really to make people know that they are wrong about why should they smoke.

II - PURPOSE
The purpose for doing the survey is because we wanted to find out why people smoke. Also, we wanted to know if people want to quit smoking or what are the reasons that people should quit. And because of our survey we want to help other people understand why other people smoke.

III – HYPOTHESIS
My guess was that males smoke more than females because males like to smoke because of stress about academic exams. So, the way I see the problem here is to give people some nicotine gums or patch, cold turkey or training program to make them quit as soon as possible.

IV – MATERIALS
We put eight questions on a survey so we could ask many people, and it wasn’t only for smokers, it was for both smokers and non-smokers. These questions were about where these people smoke, whether they are addicted, how they started and what the best ways to quit are. So, we wanted to know how smokers and non-smokers think about themselves.

V – METHODS
We asked about 43 people. Some of them were in the Student Center and outside the Student Center. And we waited for these people to fill out the papers. These questions were made for everybody, not only for CESL students; it was for all people, males and females. So I went to the Student Center because it was the only place for me, which is full of students. So, we did pretty well in these surveys and we asked many people. We were trying to find many people and we did.

VII – RESULTS
According to the chart 78.9% of males smoke; 21.1% of females smoke. Also, these smokers smoke alone and with people with percentage 12.5%, so they smoke with both equally with percentage 75%. So, where do these people smoke? Well, some of them smoke only in public with the percentage 8.3%, and some of them smoke in private with percentage 25%, but the rest smoke in both places with percentage 66.7%. Some people are forced to smoke with percentage 37.5%. Many smokers smoke because of stress and because of their friends also smoke with percentage 42.9%. All people suggest that programs of training with percentage 39.5% are great way to quit smoking. So, these surveys show that people care about themselves even if they smoke.

VIII – CONCLUSIONS AND DISCUSSION
My hypothesis was right, because males smoke more than females. And I think that is because males can handle smoking. Also, I learned that people smoke always with each other in public and in private. If I did this survey again I would make many changes to these questions so I could learn more about smokers.

He also said that the performer got financial problems with debt between $300 and $500 millions. On the other hand that he was taking too much Demerol to deal with his stress. He had used this painkiller since 1984, when he had an accident in the location for his Pepsi commercial. Backerman described that the physiological problem of king of pop began in that period. He started to wear wing and act strange since then. Also he never grew up, and maybe that was one of the reasons why he felt a connection with younger boys. So many things had been told about him but the clearest reason is that stress contributed to his death.

Another country’s environment is hard to adapt in. Some people in my country have a hard time to adapt in other cities. Some people adapt fast when they travel to another country and some people adapt slowly. When I came here to the United States, I adapted very fast because I like it here in the United States. Many travelers said that the adapting part is very hard in other cities or countries. Also, when people want to know how to live in another country, they should at least live in the same place for one week or two weeks top. I know many people who said that they do not have a hard time to adapt in other countries. So, people should have a lot of friends when they want to travel, so they can help each other. Also, they may want to change their strategy before they travel. Many people did that, and now it’s working for some travelers.

How You Can Get Away From Stress

The author told about two young lawyers who are told that they have only the weekend to prepare a report on a complex case. One of the lawyers feels threatened and fears that she might not solve this complex case. The other lawyer feels challenged and excited. As this example helps to show stress comes from the way in which people react to the events. According to author, a sense of control can help to reduce the negative consequences. The rats that could exert control had less ulceration than their helpless partners. It is easier to cope with the expected death of a loved one than the sudden death of a loved one. For example, students have more stress when they have surprise quizzes. The research proves that some people have a relatively stress-resistant personality. To control one's stress depends on whether people feel in control of things that give them stress, what they are doing and whether they welcome a moderate amount of change. According to the author, healthy people are more likely to cup with stress. Finally, people have different ways to cope with stress, so each person chooses the best way for him to control his stress.

In my opinion, I disagree with the author that healthy people are more likely to cope with stress. I think it depends on the personal behaviors and how they react to a sudden situation, whether if he is a healthy person or not. In my county we divide people into hot people and cold people. Hot people are people who react very fast with any situation and cold people are people who do not react at all about anything; that are a bad thing for cold people, but it is very good for not having stresses for cold people. I will talk about different ways to avoid stress or at least reduce the amount of stress, like exercise talking with friends when you have stress, and always being ready to accept sudden change in your life.

First, the research comments that when people do exercise they are less likely to have stress, especially relaxing exercise like yoga and similar exercises, because it helps the body to be productive in a sudden situation. Also when we do exercises we balance our body. For example, when we do exercises our blood pressure is balanced, and your body will be always active and ready for any sudden bad news.

Second, if you have stress, the best way to reduce that stress is to talk with other people like friends or parents, and explain to them what your problem is and you will feel better to share your problem and get advice from different people to solve your problem. Also, when you are nervous, angry and upset, remember that it is better to change your place to another place you like. For example go out with your friends to a comfortable place to reduce the stress.

Finally, when your body is ready to accept any change in your life, it helps to reduce the amount of stress. For instance, when people laugh at someone, he or she should be relaxed or not care about them. So, people should not be serious all the time about small situations.

In conclusion, we can avoid the stress with different ways. It depends on the personality of people, and not all people have same amount of stress-resistant personality. Each person has to learn the technique of how to cup with stress. In my opinion, smoking, drinking alcohol and using drugs will not help you to cup with stress.

In the article, “coping with stress,” it states that people have a different attitude about how to deal with stress problem; some people have self-control that on the stress, and also the personality can decide people how to face the stress. There are two examples to prove that people deal with the stress in different ways when they feel stressful; therefore, they have a different result, which is illness, or other is a fighter. Issues of consequence come form a text from two rates: the people who have the ability to decompress by themselves, and one’s ability to keep well psychologically and physically. On the other hand, if someone could know that they family member dead before, thus, it will be reduce, which feeling, the whole pain and surfing. Or someone can control the bad situation. However, death for people is very fearful for anybody, but it is also a serious thing. Furthermore, on the contact, whose illness is cause by stress; even though, the person will not have a good health after have stress. So, whatever what happened to cause the person to have stress, we still want to live in the world; therefore, we have to learn how to face up to the fearful situation, look at it as a war, and try our best to compete with the war.
The stress is a big problem in the modern time. People, who have the different attitude about their stress, also have a different ways to solve this problem, the personality cause the people have a different situation on stress; I had not thought that for people to knows the bad news before is a good things; also, people who have challenge found out fear stress is really braved.
First, as I know, when the people have an emergency situation, different things will happen. For example, when I was in high school, every time we had an exam, I just wanted to go to the bathroom before the exam began, even sometimes I had a stomachs, but I still could get a good score, I do not think this stress caused my situation with illness, the stress is just a mental nervous reaction. But it is not an illness that can cause people to be unable to work well.
Second, actually, the stress is most because of the people who have stronger emotion; they may easily get angry, or sometimes get too happy. But if a person knows this stress bout themselves, they do not have to control. Because this problem dose not seem like mental illness, so if we put most energy into control ourselves, that will makes themselves, whose situation getting seriously; it is not a good way to deal with stresses. I thought that for people to do some interesting things is a good way to face stress.
Third, the people do not have to know about the death before someone died. You can imagine what would happen knew you would die next week? How is your feeling? I am really afraid of this. It is a story about my family. My grandmother passed away 5years ago; we knew the bad news about her cancer situation the time is three months before she died, and it was too late for her to survive. We do not think it is a pity; we know that, if we had known it early, we still have no idea to do anything. Therefore, just know it on the right time, because if you know it early, you may not do anything well.
In conclusion, the different people have the different situation to face stresses, to control the stressful about emotion might cause people to have more stress, and also there is no benefit about knowing death. Try to do some interesting things when you feel stress. Try to talk about your stress to your friends. However, do not struggle with yourself.

The most stress thing in Carbondale is the weather. I remember it was very cold when i first got here in March. Sometimes it turns very warm, so that I can put on thin clothes. But after several days it turns very cold suddenly. It is very different from China, I cannot stand it. And now, it is too hot and wet outside, but in the CESL office it is so cold that I need a cardigan or coat with me every day. When Natasha Stele who comes from Australia, want to spread herself and foreign culture while she is in Japan. But her work place which names Nova was collapsed. So she lost her job and worry about her life. For many foreigners, to teach English in Japan is really traditional. But the Nova’s situation got worth so it is hard to get job for foreigners. The Nova which famous English chain was established by Nozomu Sahashi in 1981when he finished his study in Paris. After later, in April 2005, things was changed by many bad incidents. The students accused the school and pay back their tuition. The government lead to suspension of Nova, which suffered ,any students and their tuition. A pink bunny rabbit became famous so some air plane company help the teacher. Nova employees announced “lessons for food” program which teach for the students about the food. Nevertheless, Nova’s nightmare didn’t finish at all. Lawyers seek for bad things. Sahashi did insider trading and embezzlement and so on. After all, Nova can’t find the sponsor, it face insolvency. Finally, this incident will involve foreigner will involve with foreign languages and society. Then educational system said that foreigners need to take the proficiency test which is based on US educational.

Reaction:

I know this incident but I’m not sure about it. In Japan, this was really bad incident for many Japanese students. They had to seek for Nova to pay back their tuition. Also one of my friend was damaged this problem. She learned in Nova and also she paid her tuition before Nova would collapse. In her case, she could get her tuition but most of the people couldn’t get their money. Many foreigners lost their job and worry about their life in Japan. I also learned English from foreigner but not same school. I thought that was terrible problem. If my teacher would be this situation and he lost his job, what should I do? I thought. For foreigner, to get the job in Japan is not easy way. And also to get regular job is more hard in Japan. If many foreigner are interested in Japan, culture, and languages, I would be happy. Although this incident lost foreigners wish, I hope that many foreigners like Japan and other things. I hope many foreigners don’t be regret this.

Fashion looks like very pretty, but fashion has some potential problems. For example, everyone thinks fashion stores can earn much money, but it’s not true because it spends a lot of cost for making advertisements, hiring models and designers. Moreover, sometimes fashion stores should offer their producers to some fashion shows or celebrities. However, I tell myself if I had opportunities to relate fashion, I would know what the fashion is first because fashion has to care design more. Actually, I will study fashion design in S.I.U.C after I graduate C.E.S.L. Also, I read some news and articles which are related by fashion; therefore, I afraid of fashion now. There are too many potential problems that I can’t figure out. For example, fashion can’t provide whatever they want to show because they need to follow customer habits. Hackers, infiltrating the system were the problem since the computer appeared. With the development of computer technology hacker’s skills have become stronger and stronger. More and more people can use computers with serious technology. For instance, all the people have blogs. We can change the theme by ourselves. It has a choice: edit as Html. We can use the program language to change the background, colors, music, and everything that you want to edit. If it is 5 years ago, this technology just would be used by computer staffs. There are a large number of talented people who are so young and so creative all over the world. I heard news: a boy, 11 years old, used his pc to infiltrate the system of the China Bank. According to Linda Toll in her article, "Music therapy as stroke therapy," music therapy has a good effect on stroke patients. First, music connects with the brain, so it is especially good for stroke patients. For this reason, music therapy allow them to get better feeling and to adapt themselves to the social circumstance. Moreover, recently it shows that music therapy is getting better united with traditional therapy to stroke patients. Nonetheless, some scientists say that music therapy and people's emotion can't connect with each other exactly. However, some people agree with music therapy's ability through their experiments including Nayak. In conclusion, music therapy has wonderful influence on patients, especially brain problem patient.

When I was in university, I made a presentation about prenatal music. Actually, after I gave the presentation, I thought about my future job. My father is a pastor. His focus is old people. Therefore, I wanted to help his work, so I wanted to be a music therapist. At that time, when I said my opinion, he respected my opinion. However, he said that "you can also help me by piano performance." For this reason, I have been studying here. After I finish CESL, I want to study my major at SIU. In addition, after I finish at SIU, I want to help my father's work by piano performance and music therapy. In conclusion, I didn't know the musical benefits exactly. However, after I read this article, I know about music therapy's importance. I think that music is the best present from God! I love my major!

According to the author, she states that if you use computer a long time, you must feel tired and get some physical problems such as low back pain, horrible pain, and so on. Ergonomic problems, which include Carpal tunnel syndrome and aching back, have been increasingly common in modern society; however, nobody has noticed what the causes are. First, in general we don't think that we have any physical problems in our bodies, but routine position and routine life undermine our bodies, especially computer work. On the other hand, we have solutions to ease this pain.According to the article, treatment is very simple. The author suggests we should do proper exercise, take some medicine and keep god posture. First, we can know what the relation between dollars and gold is. Second, there is the reason why the gold price increasing in the whole world. Third, the price of gold or the value of gold is unpredictable and volatile. To sum up, the suggestion is that we should not be blind buying gold or selling your jewelry.

REACTION:
I agree with the author's opinion that gold is not the safest investment, because the price of gold is unpredictable. But is a little safer than dollars, especially when the world is in trouble whit financial crisis. I think that is the best way to keep the value of your money is by using all 50% of your money to buy gold and keeping the other 50% of money in the bank. Whatever which side is changed, you always have 50% of the money, and get a chance to earn more money.

In Raimundo Soto´ paper “Dollarization, Economic Growth, and Employment” (*), the author established the effect on employment levels and economic growth, and the relationship between them, after the Government from Ecuador made the decision to eliminate the national currency and use American Dollar in its place. First, he introduces a brief point about the economic situation of Ecuador before and after dollarization. Second, he describes the Econometric Model used to analyze data, which consisted of a multivariable Log-linearizing equation of regression. Then, the author explains the main discoveries when he ran the model for the long and short term, which are high and positive correlations between employment levels and both the Gross Domestic Product and Real Exchanges Rate; on the other hand, the opposite effect was found for the Cost of Capital and Real Wages. He concluded by saying that the dollarization process of Ecuador has been controversial, because it has coexisted with two different effects, and said that in order to increase the employment levels the government will make policies which help the economic growth and avoid fixing a high minimum salary.

Danny Shaw’s article entitled “Crime statistics reveal little” alleges that the statistic, which shows that in England and Wales a crime happens once per 5 seconds, an arrest occurs once per 15 seconds, can’t tell us the truth. The author points out a big mistake. Although the data was provided from the government, the data can’t use the snapshots directly. Except that they are just a record of one day, no other information can be known. Even though the amount events of wrongdoing, seizing, probation service and Victim Support seemed large, some numbers of them should be cut out, like the shots leading to transfer from one department to another one, cautions and acquittals. We have to know the details for the events, or deeply know how many police staff deal with the events. All factors should be considered for the analysis. So actually the statistics could only be used to promote them for working hard and how large their tasks are, nothing else. The best revised way is using the average daily caseload per year to stand for the snapshots on May 01. That will make the statistics more reliable.
